What does a Care Support Worker do?

Care Support Workers help people with different disabilities and mental health needs live their lives more independently. They provide both physical and emotional support to help people reach their potential. The role comes with its challenges, but through support, understanding and teamwork, you’ll know you’ve positively impacted people’s lives – and there’s no better feeling than that.

As a Care Support Worker, you can work in a variety of settings such as care homes, hospitals, or out in the community. The role is so varied, because each person has unique care needs, making the job itself unique too.

Is a Care Support Worker Role for me?
Are you naturally caring and looking for a career that makes a difference in the lives of others? Would you like to work for a company where you feel respected and cared for? If so, a job with Cygnet as a Care Support Worker would be perfect for you!
Do I need experience in care?
Experience in the care sector is helpful but not required. We are looking for caring and reliable people who have a passion for helping others and are looking to make a real difference. So our roles are open to applicants who have worked in care or are looking for a career change and can use skills from their previous careers or life experiences. Full training is provided, and there are plenty of opportunities to help you achieve your career aspirations.
What skills do i need for the role?

When working as a Care Support Worker, certain skills are helpful, such as:

  • The desire to help others, regardless of their condition, needs or circumstances.
  • The ability to communicate with people clearly and sensitively.
  • Have a non-judgmental attitude and be an active listener.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt to changing circumstances.
  • Good time management skills to be able to support the needs of different people.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • The ability to empathize with others.
  • Being able to develop good, positive relationships with others.
  • Ability to collaborate with other healthcare workers to ensure the highest quality of care.
  • Emotional resilience as well as patience.
  • Having the ability to remain calm under pressure and in challenging situations.

Often, the people we support need help communicating. So understanding how the person communicates and how others can best communicate with them is an essential part of the job

How much do Care Support Workers get paid?
Depending on the location, Care Support Workers typically earn £19,000-£22,000 when they work full-time. If you are available and meet the needs of our clients, you may be able to work more hours and earn more. With Cygnet, you will have access to a pension plan that includes contributions from you and us- helping you prepare for the future and plan ahead.
What hours are available?

We offer a range of hours to meet your needs and the needs of the people we care for. For example, working hours can include part-time, full-time, evenings, mornings, and weekends. As part of our commitment to a healthy work-life balance, we always try to be flexible, so that you can fit your working life around your home life.

What kind of training will I receive?
Taking part in ongoing training and learning new skills is one of the most rewarding aspects of working at Cygnet. Our in-depth learning programmes taught in person by our experienced trainers will help you get started with care, even if you've never worked in care before. You'll gain confidence quickly with us, and we're always available to help. Training doesn't stop there. Instead, we'll continuously provide you with opportunities to advance and earn professional qualifications so you can achieve your goals.
